Apply Yourselves : Help With Downloading

You might like to print this document from your browser, or save it to a convenient location. If you do decide to save it, you will not see the pictures on the page unless you save them too!

When you click on the link to download the file, you should get a message similar to the one below:

You have chosen to download a file from this location. Would you like to save it or run it from it's current location.

The default option is to save the file, which we would recommend you do. You should then get a message box asking where you would like to save the file, similar to the one below:

Where would you like to save this file?

Make sure you remember where you are saving it. It might be a good idea to save the file in C:\My Documents or on your Windows Desktop. The above message box is saving it on my Windows Desktop as indicated in the box Save In.

Press the Save button when you are ready to start downloading the file.

After the file has finished downloading, you may or may not get a message telling you that your download is complete, but in either case, it should be obvious that the download has finished, when the download indicator reaches 100%.

Now that the download has finished, you need to run the program from your computer. Open up Windows Explorer, by clicking on the Start Menu at the bottom left hand corner of your computer screen and going to Programs and then Windows Explorer.

If Windows Explorer is not in this location, you may need to look on some of your other menus to find it. If you still can't find Windows Explorer, please refer to the finding the downloaded file section of the document.

Go to the directory that you saved the downloaded file to and highlight the directory. In the right hand side of the Explorer window you should see the file that you saved. Double click on the file and it should start the installation for you.

Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

Once the installation is completed and you want to start the program, click on the Start Menu at the bottom left hand corner of the computer screen, go to Programs and to Apply Yourselves. Clicking on the Apply icon will run the program.

Finding the downloaded file

If you can't find Windows Explorer, there are two ways of running it.

  1. Click on the Start button at the bottom left hand corner of your screen, go to Run and type in explorer in the dialog box and press the OK button.
  2. If you have a Windows key on your keyboard (usually between Ctrl and Alt), hold this key down and press E

To Find the downloaded file without Windows Explorer, or if you are having problems finding the file from within Windows Explorer, click on the Start menu, go to Find then Files or Folders. In the Named section of the box that appears type in ay*.exe

Make sure that the Include subfolders box is ticked and the Look In section of the box is pointing to the disk that you saved it on to e.g. If you saved the file onto your hard disk, make sure the Look In section says (C:)
n.b. Your C drive may have a name before the (C:) section such as MS-DOS or something similar.

If you aren't sure where you saved it, the Look In section should say My Computer and the Include subfolders box should be ticked. Press the Find Now button when you are ready to start searching.

When the Find utility has found your file, double-click on the file name to run the installation of Apply Yourselves.

Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

Once the installation is completed and you want to start the program, click on the Start Menu at the bottom left hand corner of the computer screen, go to Programs and to Apply Yourselves. Clicking on the Apply icon will run the program.
